NDLEA busts trafficking network spanning eight states, Abuja

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it has arrested a 93-year-old man and a 69-year-old medical doctor in a series of operations targeting drug trafficking across Nigeria. The agency said the raids took place in Lagos, Ogun, Abia, Edo, Niger, Imo, Borno, and the Federal Capital Territory.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said a 93-year-old suspect, Pa Friday Ahukanna Chigbu, was arrested in Abia State with 7.7 kilograms of skunk, while a 69-year-old doctor, Chudi Daniel Ofomata, was detained in Ogun State over links to an international cocaine trafficking attempt.

The agency said the operation also led to the arrest of an Ivorian national at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport with 1.49 kilograms of cocaine, as well as multiple seizures, including 118 kilograms of skunk in Niger State and over 7,000 kilograms in Edo State.

NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa said the arrests were part of intelligence-led efforts to dismantle drug networks, adding that the agency will continue its enforcement and prevention campaigns nationwide.
