Police in Oyo State have rescued a five-year-old girl and arrested two suspects nearly two weeks after she was abducted from her family’s home in Lagelu Local Government Area.
The child was taken from her residence at Iyana Offa on July 3. Her family paid ₦1 million toward a ₦10 million ransom demand during negotiations in Gbongan, Osun State, on July 8, before the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, using intelligence and technological tracing, located the suspects’ hideout in the Mojoyin Molade area of Iwo Road, Ibadan.
Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade said operatives stormed the hideout around 10:30 pm on July 11, arresting the two principal suspects — aged 37 and 25 and rescuing the child unharmed minutes later.
Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga commended the squad’s operation. Police say the suspects are cooperating with investigators, while efforts continue to recover the ransom already paid and track down other syndicate members still at large.
