The draft Executive Bill on state policing will be ready for President Bola Tinubu’s review by September 3, according to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Speaking as Chairman of the Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill, Gbajabiamila said the committee is working to deliver a comprehensive legal framework for a dual federal-state policing system. He said the group has adopted a seven-week work plan covering legal drafting, stakeholder consultations, funding arrangements and implementation guidelines. The draft will undergo presidential review before being forwarded to the National Assembly for consideration.
The Federal Government says the proposed legislation is intended to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture by allowing states to establish police services while maintaining coordination with federal law enforcement agencies under a unified constitutional framework.
